Dangerously Blind

A wonderful fun puzzle sent to me by my brother:

A blind lady with a high blood pressure went to see a doctor. Doctor prescribed two types of pills for her, colored white and black but shaped the same. She should take one white and one black pill today and then again one white and one black tomorrow and her blood pressure will get lower. Doctor put one white and one black pill in lady's right hand (for today), and one white and one black in lady's left hand (for tomorrow). Doctor also warned her that if she will take double dose of any of the pills, two white or two black, she may die. Scared to death on her way home, the blind lady got confused and ended up with all four pills in one pile. How can she, without any external help, manage to take the right pills today and tomorrow?

To think your way to the simple and fascinating answer, take four pills, color two of them with a marker, tie a scarf around your eyes and feel what you can do...

I would hold the pills up to a light for a while until it is possible to feel that two of the pills are warmer than the others. Then take one warm one (black) and one cooler one (white).

That's a good answer. White pill would reflect the light (heat) while black one would absorb it and feel warmer. Counting one more for Peter!

But there is another answer. And an astonishngly simple one...

cut the pills in half and take one-half of every other pill.

That's it!
Carefully break every one of four pills into two halves, eating one half and leaving another for tomorrow. Overall, you will eat two halves of white pills and two halves of black - just what doctor prescribed.
Bravo to Richard and Joan and welcome to the marathon. New puzzle will be posted tomorrow.

Grind the pills up and mix thoroughly, then split into two halves and take at the appropriate time.
