How much is for one?
Two dollars, - replied cashier at the hardware store.
How much is for twelve?
Four dollars.
OK. Give me please nine hundred and twelve.
This will be six dollars.

That is right: each number costs $2.
House number "12" will be $4.
House number "912" will be $6.
